Tutor Screening Process

“We don’t just hire tutors — we cultivate mentors.”

At SeaQuest Education, our academic tutors are more than subject-matter experts they’re role models entrusted with your child’s academic journey. That’s why our tutor screening process is among the most rigorous in Southern California.

Every SeaQuest tutor passes through a 6-stage vetting and onboarding process before working with students:

1.

 Selective Application Process

  • Tutors must submit:

    • A detailed resume

    • Academic transcripts (college-level or higher)

    • A statement of educational philosophy or teaching interest

  • Priority is given to applicants with:

    • Teaching, tutoring, or classroom experience

    • High GPA in relevant subjects

    • Leadership or mentoring roles

2.

Structured Interview

Each applicant participates in a multi-part interview covering:

  • Instructional techniques

  • Student behavior scenarios

  • Personal motivation and alignment with SeaQuest’s mission

  • Communication and professionalism
This process allows us to assess not only what they know, but how they teach and connect with young learners.

3.

Fingerprinting & DOJ/FBI Background Check

Individualized lesson plans tailored to learning style. Focus on improving weak areas while reinforcing strengths. Engaging and interactive teaching methods. Progress tracking and regular parent updates.

4.

Reference & Credential Verification

  • At least two professional or academic references are contacted

  • Verification of:

    • Degree completion (or current enrollment in relevant college program)

    • Tutoring, teaching, or academic work experience

5.

 Mandatory SeaQuest Tutor Training

Before starting with any students, tutors complete:

  • SeaQuest curriculum training (lesson structure, pacing, learning targets)

  • Behavior and engagement strategies

  • Family communication guidelines

  • Mandatory reporting and professionalism policy training

  • Digital privacy and secure student data handling

6.

Trial Session & Ongoing Evaluation

  • Tutors complete a trial teaching session observed by a SeaQuest manager

  • Once hired, they receive:

    • Regular performance evaluations

    • Feedback from parents, students, and site supervisors

    • Support from academic managers for ongoing growth

Our Goals

Only the top 5–10% of applicants make it through the process.

This ensures every student is matched with a tutor who is:

  • Academically capable

  • Emotionally mature

  • Mission-aligned

  • Parent-trusted
